TL;DR

Engineering Manager, Data & Analytics: Lead a team of 4-5 engineers while staying hands-on to evolve a self-service data platform and deliver data as a product, with an accent on data modeling, stakeholder-driven roadmap sequencing, and distributed data ownership. Focus on guiding an active transition in data streaming and building AI data governance foundations (guardrails, access control, and safety) as agentic analytics becomes customer-facing.

Location: Chemnitz (also available in Berlin, Dresden)

What you will do

  • Lead and develop 4-5 engineers as a player-coach: coaching, unblocking delivery, and building a product-minded data engineering culture
  • Own roadmap sequencing by negotiating priorities with product stakeholders and reaching workable compromises
  • Balance platform and product delivery demands while mediating between both contexts
  • Guide the team through a transition using hands-on data streaming experience
  • Raise the bar on data modeling and drive distributed, self-service data ownership across product teams
  • Build foundations for AI data governance for agentic analytics, including guardrails, access control, and safety

Requirements

  • Proven experience at Staff Engineer level (or equivalent) in a data engineering context, with a desire to move into people leadership
  • Player-coach mindset and experience managing or developing engineers
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including confident pushback and negotiation
  • Solid data modeling skills and credibility to set team-wide standards
  • Strong communication skills and ability to drive a cultural shift toward distributed, self-service data ownership
  • Comfort operating across both platform and product delivery contexts
