Editorial Assistant / Graphic Designer
STEM Publishing | Full-Time Freelance | Remote


We are looking for an Editorial Assistant / Graphic Designer to support editorial and visual content production for STEM journals and healthcare/scientific publishing projects.

This is a full-time freelance position, fully remote, with the possibility of in-person meetings at the beginning for onboarding. These meetings are welcome but not mandatory. The role offers a high degree of freedom, autonomy and flexibility, while requiring strong attention to detail and reliable delivery.

Role

The successful candidate will work on both editorial and design-related tasks, helping prepare high-quality written and visual content for academic, scientific and professional audiences.

Main responsibilities include:

Editing, recreating and adapting diagrams, figures and visual materials in Figma for STEM journal articles.
Improving the clarity, consistency and visual quality of scientific figures.
Rewriting and editing short news stories in English.
Editing journal article content in English for clarity, structure and readability.
Supporting the preparation of editorial and publishing materials.
Ensuring accuracy, consistency and attention to detail across text and visuals.
Learning and applying standards used in academic and scientific publishing.
Profile

This role may suit someone with a background in philology, translation, English-language publishing, editorial work or graphic design.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working with both language and visual content, enjoys precise editorial work and is interested in developing expertise in academic and scientific publishing.

Requirements
Fluency in English, with the ability to rewrite and edit texts in English.
Good working knowledge of Figma.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and manage tasks autonomously.
Interest in academic, scientific or medical publishing.
Willingness to learn and adapt to publishing workflows and editorial standards.
Nice to Have
French language skills.
Experience with scientific, medical or academic content.
Experience editing figures, diagrams or visual materials for publication.
Background in translation, publishing, editorial assistance or graphic design.
