What you will do
- Set and implement the editorial strategy for the Horn of Africa Language Services to align with regional visions.
- Lead the transformation of four language services into digital-first, video-led operations.
- Manage a geographically dispersed editorial team across multiple languages and cultures.
- Line manage Assistant Editors and a Senior Journalist Team Manager, providing mentorship and performance oversight.
- Develop a platform-specific digital strategy for YouTube, social media, WhatsApp, and digital products.
- Commission ambitious journalism, including investigations, documentaries, and data-driven video content.
Requirements
- Senior-level editorial leadership experience in journalism with a track record of high-impact work in complex political environments.
- Proven success in implementing data-led video strategies that drive measurable digital growth.
- Deep knowledge of East African politics, societies, and media landscapes, specifically in Ethiopia and Somalia.
- Experience leading teams through significant organizational change.
- Fluency in English and proficiency in at least one of the following: Somali, Amharic, Afaan Oromo, or Tigrinya.
- Must be based in or able to work from Nairobi, Kenya.
