TL;DR
Backend Engineer (Ruby, Scala, Go, Java): Building and optimizing the foundational layer for sports activity processing and storage with an accent on scalability, reliability, and distributed systems. Location: Hybrid (San Francisco), must be on-site at least three days per week
Salary: $180,375 – $200,850

What you will do
- Own and evolve systems powering new and emerging sports, from data modeling and storage to app delivery.
- Design and build backend services to deliver first-class sport experiences to millions of athletes.
- Execute product work for the Next Sports team and contribute to broader architecture decisions.
- Participate in technical design reviews, write design documents, and shape the team's technical direction.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional software development experience.
- Proven track record of writing production-ready software with a focus on monitoring and operational health.
- Solid backend engineering experience with distributed systems and scaling trade-offs.
- Hands-on experience with SQL or column stores.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Ruby, Scala, Go, or Java.
- Experience with Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS.
