Opto-Mechanical Engineer

TL;DR

What you will do

• Iteratively design mechanical subsystems for optical components in laser distribution, high numerical aperture microscope imaging, and optical cavities.
• Collaborate with physicists to design ultra-high vacuum chambers, vacuum system housing, and mechanical coupling to optical systems.
• Balance competing requirements by analyzing designs and making engineering recommendations.
• Create novel designs and specifications from component level through system level.
• Validate design suitability using stability, thermal, and tolerance analysis.
• Support hands-on assembly, alignment, and integration of finalized designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree is a plus.
• 3–5+ years of opto-mechanical design experience.
• Hands-on experience with optics and opto-mechanical best practices.
• Proficiency with Solidworks, PDM, or equivalent design/data management tools.
• Experience with FEA (meshing, modal analysis, thermal analysis) and first-order analysis.
• Knowledge of precision mechanisms/kinematic systems and optical-environment material science (e.g., adhesives).
