TL;DR

Sensor Modeling Engineer (Aerospace): Architecting and designing physics-based sensor models for eVTOL aircraft with an accent on end-to-end development from implementation to lab integration. Focus on developing aviation-grade sensor models in Simulink and analyzing flight test data to ensure simulation accuracy.

Location: Remote (Must be based in the USA; no visa sponsorship provided)

Salary: $140,000 - $180,000

Company

An aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for sustainable air mobility.

What you will do

  • Architect and design physics-based sensor models for eVTOL aircraft across various fidelity levels.
  • Own the full development lifecycle of sensor models including architecture, implementation, testing, and lab integration.
  • Develop models for aviation-grade sensors such as IMU, GNSS, INS, air data systems, and radar altimeters using Simulink.
  • Analyze and interpret data from simulation and flight testing to characterize real-world sensor performance.
  • Collaborate with state estimation, control law, and simulation engineers to ensure effective simulation testing.
  • Build tools and processes to improve simulation performance and maintainability.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in the design, implementation, and testing of simulation models for physical systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Simulink for large-scale modeling, simulation, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) integration.
  • Deep technical experience with a variety of aerospace sensors.
  • Must have US work authorization; the company is unable to provide work visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Experience modeling physical systems such as aerodynamics, actuation, or powertrain.
  • Experience with HIL environments like NI Veristand or dSpace.
  • Experience designing or verifying state estimation algorithms or control laws.
  • Previous experience with flight control sensors for eVTOLs, helicopters, or fixed-wing airplanes.
  • Knowledge of aerospace data buses and communication protocols.

Culture & Benefits

  • Fully remote work arrangement with occasional travel (~10%).
  • Dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces diversity.
  • Opportunity to solve hard problems in the field of sustainable air mobility.
